Gifted and Talented Senior Installation

We are rolling through the year at warp speedd and our seniors will soon be leaving us to move on to their post high school endeavors. Some of them will go onto colleges far from here while others will find jobs and begin to work and....hopefully....continue their education as well. I am so proud of all of you and I can't wait until you come back to visit and tell me about all the wonderful ways in which you are bettering yourselves and our ever changing world.
But, let's not jump the gun! I have you for several more months and all six of my talented Gifted and talented seniors will be responsible for creating a large installation art piece that will leave a mark on West Oak High School for many years.
The project is a large scale relief sculpture that will be created using, what others may consider to be, trash! That's right, one man's junk is another man's treasure. As our world struggles to come up with a solution to the problem of over production of waste, litter, and generally the de-beautification of our natural landscape, we have come up with a small solution. Let's make beautiful, meaningful art using TRASH!
We came up with this idea after viewing the work of John Dahlsen www.johndahlsen.com who states that by making this type of art, he is sharing his own concern about the earth's fragile state.
Students plan to create a large piece of installation art using nothing but trash that will be based on the landscape unique to Westminster, Oakway, and Fairplay. They will create not only a piece that addresses an issue that is of great importance to our modern world, but will also tie in personal connections by using their home as the inspiration. They will also embed objects from their childhood in order to add personal relevance. This will also create a second function for the work in that it will become something of a time capsule for these seniors.
It is going to be a beautiful, and interesting piece that will capture imaginations and draw a lot of attention ("what in the world is that?") for years to come.
The images incorporated in this blog are images of wall sculptures created by John Dahlsen. The top right image is titled South Bank and is composed of found plastic objects. The image in the bottom right corner is titled Coral. It too is composed on found objects discovered on the beaches of Australia.

Hi Jo Holly,
I just wanted to let you know that I have a thing called Google Alert let me know when my work appears on the web or in the media and I was alerted to your blog spot which features my work as being an inspiration for your senior students.
Would you please write under each of the images you have posted here that the work was by John Dahlsen and preferably provide a link to my web site. It would be much appreciated as I am the copyright owner of these works and it is not stated that I am the artist who made these images.
Thanks in advance.
My email address if you have any questions can be found on my web site

PS. I'm also a Sagitarian and a dog too, but a bit older!
